ANNAPOLIS SAILING FITNESS Announces Release of New DVD “Sailing Fitness, Opti’s to the America’s Cup”
ANNAPOLIS, MD, February 6, 2009 -- ANNAPOLIS SAILING FITNESS announced today the release of the new DVD “Sailing Fitness, Opti’s to the America’s Cup”.
ANNAPOLIS SAILING FITNESS owner, fitness trainer, and coach, Harry Legum announced today the release of the first ever comprehensive view of exercises that will directly affect a competitive sailor’s ability to sail stronger, farther, and faster with the new DVD “Sailing Fitness, Opti’s to theAmerica’s Cup”.
With more than 20 years experience in the fitness field, Legum has developed a unique sailing fitness training program tailored to the specific requirements of each type of sailor – from the children who sail Optimist® pram sailboats, Olympic and America’s Cup high performance racing sailors, to the every day cruising sailor – all of whom want to be the best sailor possible. Based upon each person’s physical characteristics, and sailing fitness goals, the program’s primary emphasis is on safety.
“Sailing Fitness, Opti’s to the America’s Cup” shows a definitive collection of workouts featuring US SAILING’s 2008 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year winners - TP 52 World Champion and America’s Cup sailor Terry Hutchinson, and Laser Radial Olympic Gold Medalist Anna Tunnicliffe. In addition, members of the United States Naval Academy Intercollegiate Sailing Team, and Optimist® sailor eleven year old Christian Filter are shown in the DVD, among others, all of whom train with Legum to achieve their optimal sailing performance goals.
“I have become a better professional sailor because of my continued association with Harry” said Hutchinson, who has been training with Legum for five years. “I started working out with him six months before the 2004 Farr 40 World Championships and my performance there was a direct result of Harry’s workouts” Hutchinson added.
Olympian Tunnicliffe, who also recently won the ISAF Nations Cup Regional Final, the U.S. Women’s Match Racing Championship and Sail Melbourne in Australia, an event which is part of the ISAF Sailing World Cup, trains with Legum while maintaining her hectic globe-trotting schedule. “Harry and ASF have had a big influence in my sailing career. It is hard to get someone to train you specifically for sailing, but Harry gets it right. He knows the sport and how to adapt the gym for sport specific training” said Tunnicliffe.
North Sails North America and Gill North America are sponsors of Annapolis Sailing Fitness and were heavily involved in the development and production of the DVD. North Sails Chesapeake representative Jim Allsopp explains why North sponsors ASF - “It is simple. The better shape you are in, the more fun sailing becomes. Physical fitness is so very important for one design sailing. If you can’t hike, you can’t win.” www.na.northsails.com
President of Gill North America, David Pritchard said that “Gill decided to partner with ASF after a careful review of the good work Harry is doing with Gill-sponsored athletes. ASF has an important sailing fitness message that needs to be presented to the sailing community. The new DVD does that with excellence!” www.gillna.com
